Prairie Engineers prepared a hydraulic study for a proposed private covered bridge over Indian Creek in southern Livingston County, Illinois. Indian Creek is a tributary of the South Fork Vermilion River, and has a drainage area of nearly 50 square miles at the project site. The hydraulic study established the natural high water elevations for various flood frequencies at the site. The study also confirmed that the proposed project met the requirements for coverage under the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Statewide Permit No. 2.
The proposed project site was located in an area where several small tributaries joined together, creating a wide floodplain and varying flow conditions. Indian Creek had a great degree of meandering in the vicinity of the proposed structure as well.
The proposed bridge was a 64 foot long, 10 foot wide three span covered bridge to be used for private vehicular access.
